Agent of the Connecticut Land Company who led a survey party into the Western Reserve in 1798 and founded Poland, Ohio. He moved his family there in 1803. He also constructed the road from Youngstown to Grand River and surveyed Burton, Poland and Youngstown. He supported roads, schools and libraries in the area and became a judge and state senator.
